Qui sommes nous?

How Did We Get Started?

Jewish Canadian Youth Model United Nations was first discussed in early 2001 at the Côte-Saint-Luc pool by a group of Jewish McGill students. Together, they realized that there was no Kosher and Shabbat-friendly Model UN experience in Canada. Invigorated by a need to fill this hole, they planned the first ever JCYMUN conference that same year.

From that first meeting and that first conference arose a dedicated community of Jewish students who come together every year to participate in Model UN, either as delegates, staff, or Secretariat. For the past 25 years, JCYMUN has expanded to dozens of schools from Canada, the USA, and Brazil.

Our Mission

JCYMUN's mission is to provide a Kosher and Shabbat-friendly Model UN experience that enriches and cultivates young Jewish students’ perspectives and appreciation for the international field of diplomacy. In addition to gaining an understanding of international relations and global issues, Jewish students have the opportunity to develop debating, public speaking, and analytical thinking skills, all while connecting with similarly committed peers.

Our Team

Keeping in line with tradition, JCYMUN is a student-run organization with staff and Secretariat being full-time students in CEGEP and university. Our dedicated team of committee chairs, logistics staff, photographers, directors, and Secretariat members work tirelessly year-round to provide an amazing conference for all participating students and schools.

Our Numbers

From global pandemics to increasing costs due to inflation, JCYMUN's community has grown and shrunk with every coming year.

However, since our online conferences in 2021 and 2022, there has been a significant uptick in student numbers, proving just how invaluable and important this conference is for students.

JCYMUN has and will continue to be an incredible experience for all students from across the Americas. While a student-run organization means that there is a lot of movement in staff, the dedicated Secretariat team, along with JCYMUN alumni, ensure that this project, first started in 2001, keeps advancing, keeps growing, and keeps promoting a need for more diverse and exciting avenues of Jewish education.
