Crisis Committee
The Crisis Committee is a small delegation of people, for this crisis, assembled in order to tend to a time-sensitive issue that has emerged and is of critical importance.
The Crisis Committee functions differently than all other committees, as it is extremely dynamic and situations unfold in real-time during the committee sessions. Here are some procedures and rules of debate specific to this committee which participating delegates should familiarize themselves with:
-
There is only one topic for the Crisis Committee. The topic chosen for the Crisis Committee will be one that involves more layers than the issues explored by other committees.
-
Crisis does not entertain a primary speaker's list. The committee will begin in the secondary speaker's list and in order to facilitate rapid-fire debate, the Crisis runs entirely as a moderated caucus. This means that if a delegate wishes to speak he/she raises their placard and the chair will call upon them to speak, as opposed to the chair adding their name to the list of people waiting to speak.
-
In addition to passing notes to other delegates in the committee, Crisis delegates can write notes to their country's government in order to find out information about their resources or have decisions and actions approved.
-
In this committee, the background guide serves as a starting off point, but any situation can be thrown at the delegates. Thus, they should research their character's opinions on the issues, as well as those of their allies and enemies.
The Crisis Committee has a team of staff in addition to the committee chairs that reside in the Crisis room. These staff, led by the Crisis Director, act as the home countries and respond to the delegates' requests.
